Our mission

Supporting belonging in Kāpiti

Good housing provides more than shelter — it creates the foundation for stability, security, and a sense of belonging.

Kāpiti Housing Solutions is an independent charitable trust.

Addressing the need

Kāpiti is experiencing increasing pressure on housing, including rising costs, limited supply, and changing community needs.

Our Trust wants to be part of the solution and to provide a coordinated, long-term response. A response that connects planning, delivery, and ongoing management, and works across council, government, iwi, and community.

Our guiding principles

Our work is grounded in:

Connection and belonging (Whanaungatanga)

Care for people and place (Kaitiakitanga)

Respect and support for whānau (Manaakitanga)

Long-term sustainability

Transparency and community first

Our progress

Ōtaki – Rangiuru Road

Our first development opportunity is in Ōtaki. Funding has been secured through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to support housing on land that was purchased by Kāpiti Coast District Council for affordable housing.

We are working through the transfer of this land asset to the Trust, alongside progressing planning, consenting, and early community engagement with partners to ensure the development reflects local needs and is well integrated into the surrounding neighbourhood.

This is a staged project, with key planning and delivery milestones anticipated across 2026–2027.

Establishing the Trust

A key focus since the Trust’s establishment in December 2024 has been establishing Kāpiti Housing Solutions as a strong, independent community housing trust.

This has included building the foundations required to support long-term housing outcomes across the district — from governance, policies, and processes, through to partnerships, funding pathways, and our approach to community engagement.

With a governance-led model, this has been a hands-on period for the Board, working to ensure the Trust is well-positioned to both deliver housing and manage it responsibly over time.

Independent
& connected

Kāpiti Housing Solutions is an independent charitable trust.

We work alongside council, iwi, central government, and community partners—while maintaining the ability to respond directly to local need and contribute to long-term housing outcomes across Kāpiti.

Get in touch

After a period of establishing the Trust, a key focus for 2026 is to build strong, direct relationships across the Kāpiti community

This includes:

  • engaging directly with neighbours as projects progress

  • connecting with community organisations and sector partners

  • participating in local forums and conversations about housing

We are committed to being open, accessible, and responsive as our work develops. If you would like to connect with us — whether as a neighbour, community organisation, or partner — we welcome the conversation.
