Kāpiti Housing Trust formed to support housing outcomes across the Kāpiti Coast

Kāpiti Housing Trust has been formed to support positive housing outcomes across the Kāpiti Coast. The Trust provides a structure through which land, funding, and partnerships can be brought together to deliver housing projects that respond to local need over time.

The Kāpiti Coast continues to experience housing pressure, including rising house prices, rental demand, and limited availability of affordable and suitable homes. These pressures affect a wide range of households across the region and highlight the need for coordinated, long-term housing responses.

Prior to the Trust’s establishment, Kāpiti Coast District Council (KCDC) held land in Ōtaki identified for housing development and secured affordable housing funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD). Following the formation of Kāpiti Housing Trust, the land has been transferred from KCDC to the Trust to enable delivery of the project through a dedicated housing entity.

The Trust’s First Project: Ōtaki

The Ōtaki development is the Trust’s first project and will deliver 46 mixed-typology homes to meet a range of housing needs within the community. The development approach reflects the Trust’s wider role in enabling housing projects through partnerships and planned growth.

Wayne Bishop Group has been selected as the building partner for the project and will deliver the construction works.

Timeline

Construction is planned to begin in 2026, with the first stage delivering 22 homes by mid-2027. Further stages will follow as the project progresses.

Looking Ahead

Kāpiti Housing Trust will continue to work with partners, funders, and the community to support future housing initiatives across the Kāpiti Coast. The Ōtaki development represents the first step in a broader programme of work.
